Optimization of the Security Strategy and Development of a Protection Zone Concept for a Global Pharmaceutical Company

Background

The company wanted to review the security infrastructure at one site, evaluate measures and identify opportunities for optimisation. The focus was on analysing the security requirements, the security infrastructure and internal processes and responsibilities.

In addition, threat scenarios and protection goals were to be defined and a roadmap drawn up. This required a site inspection, an analysis of security measures and specific recommendations for action. Furthermore, a target operating model with responsibilities was needed as well as a rough cost estimate

Solution

The project started with 3-core analysing the security guidelines and existing concepts. This was followed by a site inspection of the main site and relevant external areas. Access controls, monitoring systems and emergency measures were examined, and discussions were held with security personnel and those responsible.

The existing security measures were compared with the higher-level requirements, deviations were documented and potential for optimisation was identified. The results were incorporated into a protection zone concept that considers relevant threat scenarios and associated measures.

To improve the internal organisation, the existing security processes and responsibilities were analysed. Threat images and protection goals were defined in workshops with the responsible teams and a target operating model with clear responsibilities was developed.

Finally, a prioritised roadmap was drawn up, which included implementation steps and a rough cost estimate for investment (CAPEX) and operating costs (OPEX). The results were summarised in a final report.
